Asher's and BenAnna's are connected
internally by cafre doors. The hardwood floors and tin ceilings are original. The stores are named after grandchildren
Ben, Anna and Asher Wiggins.
Asher's is a hobby shop, an
authorized Schwinn bicycle dealer with accessories, parts and a service department, a line of S Gauge model trains with a
96 square foot operating layout, consignment mall, a display of old quilts (most of them made by family members) and lots
of nostalgic items from Monterey's past.
The Butterfly
quilt pattern was chosen by Kay because butterfly quilts were made for her sons, Ken and Mike Wiggins, in the 1960s by their
grandmother (Kay's mother), the late Eva C. Huddleston Nichols who did the appliqueing, piecing and quilting. It will
be displayed at the Commercial Avenue entrance to both stores.
